Motivational tools! How 3 simple habits can give you more Motivation in your Life

What is your purpose that gives you energy, ambition and inspiration to complete your daily task throughout your life?

From childhood to adulthood we are designed to form habits through our learned behaviors and generally what we encounter on a daily basis. The habits we create affects us mentality, physically, socially and spiritually which determines how we live. How do we know which habits are healthy for us from the habits that are toxic to our well-being?

I feel that the habits we form shape us into who we are. Imagine doing the same behavior, every day and at the same time; that repetitive behavior is the habit that you formed involuntarily or by choice. What is that behavior doing for me? Is it allowing me to pursue my passion? Is it holding me back from achieving my goals? Or is it slowly putting me in a funk? If we are able to change our habits, we are able to change our behaviors thus changing the way we live.

While my profession as a counselor allows me to be more mindful at times, I neglect to see my own habits and how they determine my behavior throughout the day. I realized that I’m the only person that determines the level of motivation I will have for the day. Below are three simple habits that I practice in my life that have made an enormous difference to my lifestyle.

  • Finding a Positive Mentor

Who do I aspire to be? Who do I look up to? How did he/she become so successful? Where do they get their energy from? How can I learn? These are questions I asked myself when I wanted to start a side hustle, be my own boss and have more than just the nine to five career. Having a mentor does not necessarily mean having someone that you meet with weekly and pick their brain. That concept works as well but also seeing or hearing someone that motivates you to change your habits and pursue that dream. My personal mentors are Eric Thomas, Tony Robbins and Gary Vaynerchuk who I have never met but listen to, watch and evaluate on a regular basis. Their messages and motivational speeches allow me to be more mindful of my behaviors and how they effect my lifestyle goals.

  • Positive Self-Talk

Have you ever heard the saying, we’re our own worst enemy? Unfortunately, we get stuck in a state of self-doubt and self-loathing that we tend to have disparaging self-talk. Self-talk is the internal conversation we have that affects our thoughts, self-esteem, confidence and attitude throughout the day. How can we turn our negative into a positive? Start by creating a list of positive self-talk statements. Choose one statement from that list to use throughout the day. Reflect on how using positive self-talk made you feel. “This is too difficult” or “This may take some time and effort, but I’ll figure it out”. Just by changing the language of our statements, tells our mind to figure it out. I wake up daily telling myself, “Another day to make a change”. The encouragement that I give myself enables me to go through the day with a positive mindset. Although there maybe problems or issues that I’ll appearance during the day, mentally I’ll feel stronger and more focused when the problems arise.

  • Create a list of Attainable Goals

It seems like everyone has some type of achievement that there are wanting to accomplish; whether it’s losing weight, travel more, find a new career or starting a family. These are all goals that we aspire to do at some point in our lives.
